Join retired Millwright Martin Watts for this fascinating illustrated talk spanning his 50 year career, including his time spent at a variety of mills across the country, and the work involved in this ancient craft!
The talk will cover Martin's training in three-dimensional design and architecture, his time as the curator at Worsbrough Mill - a working watermill museum in South Yorkshire, life as a freelance millwright and mill researcher on over 200 water, wind, and animal-powered mills, and the pivotal role Martin played in the restoration of Heron Corn Mill, where the machinery had gone untouched for nearly 30 years!
Millwrighting is a highly specialized skill which combines carpentry, engineering, and metalwork across the construction, repair, and maintenance of mills. This talk provides a rare opportunity to hear an experienced Millwright talking about his craft!
